Supporting Youth in the Foster Care System

Plummer Youth Promise is located north of Boston and supports boys and young men who are in the foster care system. This support comes in a variety of forms.

First and foremost, Plummer offers housing on their campus. Plummer also provides help with education – whether that’s while their kids are in grade school or they are pursuing college. And they assist their youth in searches for work or for housing beyond Plummer. Beyond these examples, however, Plummer’s real mission is summed up in their tagline Family For Everyone.  It’s helping the youth find a family, and “family” can be defined in many, many ways.

The most obvious example is a family who adopts a young person and they live together. But “family” for Plummer can also mean a single individual who adopts a young adult who has aged out of the system. They maybe don’t even live together as a family unit, but that individual is there to support and guide their adoptee unconditionally as they move through life.

Regardless of the circumstances, it’s about helping the youth find permanency, or, stated differently, a ‘forever family.”
