The Austen Riggs Center

June 14, 2013. This guest post is from Matt Ferrucci, who is a student at Boston College. He’s spending the summer at Reflection Films, learning a little about video production and marketing.

Psychiatric treatment is not only useful, but sometimes essential to restoring mental health and tranquility.  Technology and science have revolutionized the treatments and medication available to patients, but this doesn’t mean there is an easy solution to every individual’s predicament.  This is where the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, comes into play.

Austen Riggs recognizes that certain conditions are “treatment resistant.” That is to say, these conditions may be alleviated, but not completely overcome, by traditional therapy and medications.  Whatever the cause of this resistance, Austen Riggs has committed itself to providing a safe haven for patients who are not finding their first treatments successful.  Austen Riggs provides a healing atmosphere with a 1:1 patient to staff ratio.

Beyond psychiatric treatment, Austen hosts and sponsors educational events for the community.  On June 21st a conference will be held regarding addiction, partnerships, and parenting.  It will take place in New Haven, Connecticut, at the Yale Child Study Center.  A Summer Creativity Seminar will be held from August 9th-10th. Reflection Films has worked with Austen Riggs over the past few years, producing their main marketing video as well as a series of web videos. Stay tuned for some new thought leader clips coming this fall.
